NATIVE JAZZ WORKSHOP
This five-day Workshop offers students of all ages a unique opportunity to be part of a vibrant and evolving NEW genre of music: The fusion of traditional and contemporary native melodies from around the world—Tlingit, Filipino, Scandinavian and others—and JAZZ. World-class jazz musicians Reuel Lubag, Jason Marsalis and co-directors Ed Littlefield and Christian Fabian will lead students of all ages and abilities in re-creating the spirit of ancient native melodies in JAZZ.
We will cover all aspects of composing, arranging and harmonizing melodies. A thorough exploration of native melodies and history will show us the impact of music and tradition in world culture and indigenous populations around the world. Improvising and the history of America's only original art form—JAZZ—will be studied in-depth. Each student will be able to combine the two musical sources to create brand NEW work and music never heard before.
